AI engineering jobs in Europe

European AI engineering roles carry a constraint their American equivalents mostly do not: the rules arrived first. GDPR was already settled law before any of this, the EU AI Act layers obligations on top, and a lot of the interesting work here is about shipping something useful inside those limits rather than around them.

Regulation is part of the engineering

Where customer data may be processed, which provider regions are acceptable, what has to be logged, what a human review step looks like in production — on European teams these are design constraints handed to you at the start, not legal review at the end. Candidates who have shipped under them have a genuine advantage, and it is worth putting that experience near the top of a CV rather than burying it.

A smaller pool and longer loops

There are fewer of these roles than on the other boards and they take longer to fill, which cuts both ways: less competition per posting, but more scrutiny per candidate and often an extra conversation with someone from the product or research side. Because titles in this field are unreliable, some listings here never use the phrase AI engineer — they were classified from what the job actually asks for.
