AI Engineering board

AI engineering jobs in the United States

The US holds most of the AI engineering openings on this board, and most of them are at companies whose product is not a model. They have an existing application, a customer base, and a mandate to put something intelligent inside it that does not embarrass anyone. That framing explains almost everything about how these roles are interviewed.

The bar is production judgement

Nobody is short of demos. What teams are short of is people who can say what the failure modes are, how they would be measured, what the thing costs per thousand requests, and what happens when the provider is degraded for an hour. Being able to describe an evaluation you built — even a small, unglamorous one — moves an application further than a list of frameworks does.

Read the description, not the title

This field's vocabulary is younger than the jobs in it. AI engineer, ML engineer, forward-deployed engineer and applied scientist overlap heavily and none of them pins down whether you will be training anything. Every listing here was classified from its description, so some roles appear that never use the phrase in their title, and some that do use it do not appear.
