Software Engineer - Application Platform

2. About the Opportunity:

The Software Engineer - Application Platform role focuses on developing and maintaining backend systems that support critical product functions. This position is responsible for enhancing the infrastructure that enables engineers to ship backend work quickly, safely, and reliably, improving engineering velocity and backend development processes.

3. Responsibilities:

• Design and evolve shared Ruby frameworks for REST APIs, asynchronous jobs, workflow orchestration, and data access
• Improve availability, reliability, scalability, and performance of backend systems
• Modernize a large Ruby codebase through architectural changes
• Enhance backend development speed via improvements in tooling and workflows
• Strengthen scalability, isolation, observability, and recovery of asynchronous job platforms
• Collaborate with product engineers and infrastructure teams to address recurring issues
• Establish pragmatic engineering practices including libraries, APIs, documentation, and code review
• Mentor engineers and promote a culture of high technical standards and shared ownership

4. Requirements:

• 5+ years professional software engineering experience
• 3+ years building production systems in Ruby
• Experience maintaining large Ruby applications supporting multiple teams
• Designing reliable distributed systems at production scale
• Ability to improve complex systems through architectural and tooling enhancements
• Skilled in creating scalable abstractions and mentoring across teams

Additional preferred qualifications:

• Experience with background-job or workflow systems
• Familiarity with AWS services (SQS, EKS), Temporal, Kubernetes, Terraform
• Experience in improving test performance, local development, CI, or large-scale code migrations

5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• Annual Base Salary Range: $153,000—$376,000 USD
• Compensation based on qualifications, skills, experience, impact, and location
