Senior Software Engineering Manager - Digital Health | Remote (US)
X4 are excited to be partnered with a fast-growing digital health organisation on a key leadership hire within their core engineering team. Their technology connects patients, providers and healthcare partners at real scale.
About the Role
The opportunity Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you'll take ownership of several engineering teams and the platforms they build. It's a leadership position with genuine technical weight, you'll shape direction and standards, while staying close enough to the systems to be useful when things get difficult.
Responsibilities
- Leading and growing a group of engineers and engineering managers
- Setting architectural direction across customer-facing and partner-facing products, built on Ruby on Rails, Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL and AWS
- Owning delivery end to end, and making it something the business can count on
- Working alongside Product, Operations, Design and QA to turn complex requirements into shippable work
- Treating security and compliance as design decisions, not afterthoughts
- Using engineering metrics to drive real improvement rather than reporting
- Acting as senior escalation when something significant breaks
- Holding budget, vendor and infrastructure cost decisions
Required Skills
- Substantial experience across engineering, architecture and distributed systems
- Several years managing people, ideally including other managers or multiple teams
- Real hands-on depth with AWS, PostgreSQL, Ruby on Rails, Python and TypeScript/JavaScript — built and shipped, not just familiar with
- Background in scalable SaaS or consumer platforms, particularly anything transactional or logistics-heavy
- Confident with agile delivery, CI/CD and relational database design
- Someone who can talk technology with non-technical leaders and have both sides come away clearer
Preferred Skills
- Leadership experience in healthcare or another tightly regulated environment
- Familiarity with healthcare data, integrations or clinical systems
- Having scaled a team through a period of rapid growth, or led a major modernisation programme
- A postgraduate qualification in a technical or business discipline
