We are working with a successful global organisation that is continuing to invest heavily in its digital technology capabilities.
With a strong heritage and an ambitious digital roadmap, the business is developing and enhancing a range of online platforms, including large-scale eCommerce solutions and modern digital applications used by customers worldwide.
As part of continued growth within their technology function, they are looking for an experienced Back End Developer, Ruby on Rails Software Engineer to join their Digital Development Team and help build, maintain and evolve their online products.
Role:
Reporting into the Engineering Lead, you will become a key member of a collaborative Online Development Team, responsible for delivering robust, scalable and reliable backend solutions that support the organisation’s digital platforms.
This is a back-end specialist role, not a full stack role.
You'll become a SME within the Back-end Search team, leveraging intelligence search capabilities (Elastic Search / AWS Open Search and more)
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain backend services and applications
- Build scalable solutions that support high-quality digital and eCommerce experiences
- Work collaboratively with developers, QA, product and wider technology teams
- Contribute to technical decisions around architecture, development practices and improvements
- Produce clean, maintainable and well-structured code
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback
- Identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability and development processes
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices
You will have:
- Strong understanding of software development principles, methodologies and design patterns
- Experience with backend application development
- Solid understanding of database design and data modelling
- Commercial experience with Ruby on Rails
- Experience working within Agile development teams (Scrum/Kanban)
- Experience using Git and modern version control practices
- Experience reviewing code and providing constructive feedback
- Strong problem-solving skills with a structured and methodical approach
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams
Desirable Experience - It would be advantageous if you have experience with:
- AWS OpenSearch
- ElasticSearch
