Overview
We’re looking for a senior, hands-on Full Stack Developer with strong PHP backend experience and solid modern frontend skills.
This person will work on an existing production application spanning PHP, PostgreSQL, TypeScript, Alpine.js, SCSS, and external API integrations. You should be comfortable working across the entire request lifecycle—from browser interactions and server-rendered templates through controllers, services, database models, and third-party APIs.
This is not a role for someone who only builds APIs or only works in React. We need an experienced developer who can understand an existing application, diagnose problems across the stack, make sound technical decisions, and ship production features independently.
You’ll work on business-critical applications that support guided workflows, capture and process data, and integrate with external systems and services.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain functionality in an existing PHP application
- Develop new backend functionality using modern PHP and established application patterns
- Debug and resolve production issues across the frontend, backend, database, and external integrations
- Develop and maintain controllers, services, models, console commands, and API integrations
- Work extensively with PostgreSQL, including queries, schema changes, data relationships, and troubleshooting
- Build and improve user-facing workflows using TypeScript, Alpine.js, SCSS, and server-rendered templates
- Translate Figma designs and product requirements into clean, responsive interfaces
- Develop reusable frontend components and interaction patterns
- Integrate with REST APIs and external services
- Work with authentication and authorization flows, including Azure Entra ID / SSO
- Understand existing architecture before introducing new frameworks or abstractions
- Make pragmatic technical decisions that favor maintainability and simplicity
- Collaborate directly with product, engineering, and business stakeholders
- Participate in architecture and product discussions, not just ticket implementation
- Take features from requirements through production deployment
Core Requirements
PHP / Backend — Primary Focus
- Strong professional experience with modern PHP
- Experience building and maintaining production PHP applications
- Strong understanding of object-oriented PHP and modern coding practices
- Experience with a structured PHP framework or application architecture
- Symfony experience is highly desirable
- Laravel experience is also highly relevant
- Experience working with MVC-style controllers, services, models, middleware, and routing
- Strong understanding of REST APIs and external system integrations
- Ability to diagnose and debug unfamiliar backend code independently
- Comfortable working in an existing codebase rather than requiring a greenfield rewrite
Experience with the following is particularly relevant:
- PHP 8.x
- Symfony components
- Laravel / Illuminate components
- Eloquent ORM
- Composer
- Strict typing and typed PHP
- Server-side templating such as Latte, Twig, or Blade
Database
- Strong SQL skills
- Professional experience with PostgreSQL or a comparable relational database
- Ability to:
- Write and troubleshoot queries
- Understand schemas and relationships
- Work with migrations
- Diagnose permissions and data issues
- Understand transactional application workflows
- Experience using an ORM such as Eloquent, Doctrine, or similar
Frontend
Strong working experience with:
- JavaScript and TypeScript
- HTML5
- CSS3 / SCSS
- Responsive design
- Modern layout techniques including Flexbox and Grid
- Reusable UI/component patterns
- API-driven user interfaces
Experience with lightweight JavaScript frameworks is particularly valuable:
- Alpine.js
- Stimulus
- HTMX
- Similar server-rendered / progressively enhanced architectures
React or Vue experience is useful, but the application does not require a React or Vue architecture.
You should be comfortable working effectively within the existing frontend architecture rather than assuming the frontend needs to be rewritten into another framework.
Design & UX
- Ability to translate Figma designs into polished production interfaces
- Strong UI/UX instincts around spacing, typography, forms, navigation, validation, loading states, error handling, and user workflow
- Understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility
- Ability to bridge the gap between product/design requirements and implementation
- Experience with accessibility best practices is a plus
Current Technology Stack
Backend

No need for prior experience with every technology listed above, but you should have enough experience with comparable technologies to become productive in this environment quickly.
Nice-to-Have
- Symfony experience
- Laravel experience
- Alpine.js experience
- Latte, Twig, or Blade templating experience
- Insurance or financial-services application experience
- Azure experience
- Azure Entra ID / OAuth / OIDC experience

- Rollup, Vite, Webpack, or similar build tooling
- Docker
- CI/CD pipelines
- GitHub Actions
- Cloud deployment experience
- Experience integrating AI/LLM services
- Experience working with document-processing workflows
How You Work
- You can work effectively in an unfamiliar production application without constant direction
- You are comfortable debugging a problem wherever it leads—browser, PHP, SQL, API, configuration, or infrastructure
- You prefer understanding existing architecture before replacing it
- You make pragmatic engineering decisions rather than introducing complexity for its own sake
- You care about maintainable code and clear separation of concerns
- You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates
- You are comfortable operating independently
- You think in systems and user workflows, not just individual tickets
- You are willing to work across the stack when the product needs it
- You value shipping reliable, useful software over chasing the newest framework
What Success Looks Like
- You can independently diagnose and modify the existing PHP application
- New features move smoothly from database and backend logic through the user interface
- Production issues are diagnosed and resolved quickly
- External API integrations remain reliable and understandable
- The frontend continues to become faster, cleaner, and more intuitive
- Existing architectural boundaries remain clear and maintainable
- Features ship without unnecessary rewrites or framework churn
Compensation & Perks
- Competitive salary + performance incentives
- Flexible work environment
- Opportunity to influence architecture and product direction
- Opportunity to work directly with engineering and business leadership
