The employer’s full posting
1stopVAT grew from an idea to a live product just in 2020. A year later, we are one of the fastest-growing tax compliance startups. We are also a part of Lithuania startup community.
1stopVAT offers automated tax compliance solutions for clients worldwide. We are working with Amazon sellers, well known digital services providers, and with some non-profit projects which we think could keep our earth more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Right now, we have over 1000+ clients in our hands.
About The Role
You will work on the 1stopVAT self-service Console - the Ruby on Rails application our clients use to submit their sales data and our Operations teams use to process it. It is a live product with real users, a roadmap of new functionality, and plenty of room for an engineer who wants to shape how it develops.
You will be our Rails specialist, working directly with the Head of IT and other team members. Decisions are made quickly here, and the distance between an idea and production is short.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain features in the Console - back-end logic, data handling, and the interfaces our clients and internal teams use;
- Build and maintain integrations with external sales platforms and internal systems;
- Improve existing functionality: performance, reliability, security, and code quality;
- Write clear, well-tested code and take part in code review;
- Work directly with Operations and other business teams to turn their needs into working software;
- Keep solution documentation current (solution design, process descriptions, test cases);
- Use AI / LLM tooling where it speeds up delivery or creates business value.
What We're Looking For
- At least 3 years of commercial Ruby on Rails experience;
- Strong Ruby fundamentals, not only Rails conventions;
- Good SQL and relational database skills, including query performance and migrations;
- Practical experience designing and consuming REST APIs and third-party integrations;
- Solid engineering fundamentals: Git, automated testing, background job processing, maintainable design;
- Comfortable picking up and working in an existing codebase;
- Ability to work independently, plan your own work, and communicate clearly with non-technical colleagues;
- Good command of English (written and spoken).
Nice To Have:
- Hotwire / Turbo / Stimulus, JavaScript, modern CSS;
- Docker, Kamal, CI/CD pipelines;
- Experience integrating e-commerce or marketplace platforms (Shopify, Amazon);
- Experience with Snowflake or Python;
- Experience in financial, tax, accounting, or similarly process-heavy domains.
Our Stack:
- Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, Avo;
- PostgreSQL;
- Tailwind CSS;
- Hetzner for hosting, Kamal and Docker for deployment;
- AWS S3 for file storage;
- Snowflake;
- Airbyte;
- Git.
