About t he Role

As a Lead Backend Java Developer, you will anchor the technical architecture of high-throughput e-commerce systems, designing scalable, secure, and resilient server-side applications. Beyond hands-on development, you will act as a technical leader—critically evaluating business requirements, challenging assumptions, and proactively driving system improvements for platforms handling millions of daily updates.

This role is critical to transforming high-level business goals into robust architecture. Working directly with cross-functional leadership, international team members, and dedicated frontend units, you will bring a strategic consultant mindset to bridge business requirements and modern distributed design using AI-first workflows and clean code practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and design high-performance, secure backend systems, APIs (RESTful, GraphQL, SOAP), and relational database schemas using modern Java and framework ecosystems.

• Lead architectural decisions by evaluating business requirements, proposing proactive optimizations, and refactoring core services to support high-volume data streams and caching layers.

• Optimize complex database queries and messaging flows to handle large-scale traffic, real-time inventory synchronization, and complex order routing.

• Collaborate with cross-functional leadership, product managers, and international teams (including overlap with Europe-based engineering groups) to align strategy with execution.

• Own end-to-end system reliability, rapid root-cause analysis, and production troubleshooting while establishing best practices across the engineering workflow.

• Mentor development teams through rigorous code reviews, technical guidance, and the integration of AI-assisted engineering tools.

Requirements

• Experience: 8+ years of experience in backend software engineering with a proven track record of acting as a Technical Lead or Principal Contributor.

• Tech Stack: Strong mastery of modern Java (Java 17/21/25), Spring Framework, ORM tools (Hibernate or equivalent), Relational Databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL), Caching solutions (Redis), and Event/Messaging brokers (Kafka).

• Technical Autonomy & Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to independently translate ambiguous business logic and unit economics into performant end-to-end architecture, making pragmatic trade-offs between cost, latency, scalability, and system impact beyond raw ticket execution.
  

• Cloud Fluency: Strong baseline understanding of cloud architecture principles (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

• Soft Skills: Strong ownership mindset, high business acumen, ego-free collaboration style, and adaptability to fast-paced environments.

• Language Proficiency: Mandatory Advanced English (written and verbal) for seamless daily collaboration with international stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Exposure to high-volume/event-driven data pipelines, real-time synchronization, or NoSQL databases (Cassandra, DynamoDB, ScyllaDB).

• Hands-on production experience with AWS cloud platforms and microservices orchestration.

• Experience or exposure to enterprise e-commerce platforms (e.g., SAP Commerce / Hybris).

• Familiarity with modern AI-first development practices and AI-assisted workflows within IDEs (VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA).
